Automate your horses' feeding and free up your time from stable chores. HayTime Controller was developed to make using DIY hay cabinets effortless. It handles the distribution of hay portions for you precisely and reliably, ensuring your horse gets a natural, even feeding rhythm.

How HayTime Controller works

HayTime Controller is a simple, easy-to-use controller that operates electric locks. The locks keep the hay cabinet doors closed until the set time. At the set time, the door opens and the horse gets access to a fresh, pre-measured portion of hay. You can easily stagger feeding times by setting individual opening times for each lock.

Functions and features

Precise timing: You can choose 1, 2 or 3 locks for your order. Each lock can be set with up to two individual opening times per day. The locks open at exactly the set time.

Very long battery life: A rechargeable battery ensures reliable operation without constant charging. Depending on use and weather, the device lasts around 12–24 months on a single charge. For the best battery life, we recommend charging the battery before winter. The device is charged with a standard USB-C cable.

Finnish quality and warranty: Designed and manufactured in Finland, with a 12-month warranty.

Serviceability: All parts of the controller system are available separately as spare parts, with clear replacement instructions.

Package includes: The controller unit, your chosen number of locks, and the necessary connecting cables in your chosen lengths. (Note: USB-C charging cable not included).

FAQ

Does the HayTime Controller need mains power or external batteries?

No need. HayTime Controller runs on a built-in battery and does not require mains power. The battery is charged via the USB-C connector and lasts for approximately 12-24 months, depending on usage and temperature conditions. It only takes a few hours to fully charge the battery.

Is the HayTime Controller resistant to frost and humidity?

All our equipment has been tested for Nordic stable conditions. The HayTime Controller is resistant to frost and humidity, but should be placed in a location where it is protected from direct rain and snow. We recommend charging the battery before the winter season.

Do I have to reset the opening times every day?

No need. The HayTime Controller remembers the set times, and when Repeat mode is on, it automatically repeats them every day. You can set up to two individual opening times per day for one lock (hatch).

Do I have to visit the stable between openings?

Yes, you do. Although the HayTime Controller automatically opens the hatches, the hay locker hatches must be closed manually after each feeding session. At the same time, new hay is loaded into the cabinet for the next timing.

Can HayTime Controller locks be set to open at the same time?

Yes. The HayTime Controller locks can be set to open at the same time of day and then the locks will open one after the other, i.e. a few seconds apart. This makes it possible, for example, to use one HayTime Controller to drop hay in up to three places at the same time.

How to install HayTime Controller?

The installation of the HayTime Controller is very simple. The controller dock is fixed in place using the screws supplied and the controller is snapped onto the dock. The locks are then installed in the desired positions. Using the installation tool supplied with the controller, you can easily align the positions of the locks and hooks against each other. Once the locks and hooks are in place, the supplied wires are snapped between the controller and the lock. You then set the desired lock release times on the controller and the controller is ready for use. Installation is therefore quick and easy without any prior knowledge. The controller comes with all the necessary screws and instructions.

How many locks do I need?

The number of locks depends on how many separate locks you want the system to open. One lock can be used to control the opening of one hatch. You can choose 1, 2 or 3 locks for your system, depending on your needs.

How much weight can you put on one hay rack?

One electric lock can withstand 50 kg of direct pull. As the shelves of hay lockers are usually hinged, only part of the weight of the hay is applied to the lock – in practice, a load of up to 100 kg can be placed in a hinged hatch.

What length of wires do I need and can I extend them?

The length required depends on the structure of your hay cabinet. You can easily measure the appropriate length, for example with a piece of string from your own cabinet to the locks at the controller. Wires can also be daisy-chained as required. For example, if you need a 3 meter cable, you can order a 2 meter cable with the controller, plus a 1 meter intermediate cable as a spare part. The maximum length of the cables in chains is 6 metres.
